All equipment I use is of professional quality.
Sennelier watercolors in tubes, but also
Schmincke Horadam and
Daler Rowney artist quality colors
I have a rather big metal box for 20 colors and ample space for mixing.
I sometimes also use any of my watercolor sets (metal box with pans): Winsor & Newton Professional Field Box and Sennelier L' Aquarelle Extra-Fine.
To start out I would recommend a box set of 12 colors - either tubes or pans. Tubes are probably more economic, but it is also a matter of taste. If you work on larger paper tubes are probably more suitable. Pay for professional quality right from the start, it is not a very big difference, but well worth money spent.

On my workdesk I have a wooden table top easel with a drawer. It can be folded and carried as a briefcase.
For outdoor work I either go light with my W&N Field Box, some brushes, paper, water bottle and a stool to sit on. Or I bring my Meeden Artist watercolor field easel.
